China’s Growing Online Threats

There are extending concerns in China over the misuse of the Internet.  According to China’s minister of the State Council Information Office, Wang Chen, Internet users throughout China are adopting insalubrious Internet habits which have created a cause for concern.

During this year’s Forum on Internet Media, Chen expressed his most pressing concerns and talked about how the Chinese public should work to help “foster a converse of completeness and honesty.”

Topping Chen’sitting list of concerns included “spreading rumors”, followed by scandalous advice reports or as I would call it “Yellow Journalism”. They are definitely creating a bad name for themselves. The next points are being of the kind which follows:

2. Sending out Pornographic and Gambling Information
3. Creation of Threats
4. Violation of Privacy Laws and Harrassment
5. Playing Unhealthy Games
6. Online Fraud
7. Selling Faulty Products
8. Stealing Personal Information
9. Sending Junk Mail
10. Spreading Viruses

According to Wang, these issues are creating a problem when trying to regulate the online usage. Wang has suggested that the Internet be supervised in order to create a more user friendly actual trial for Chinese players as well as lay away stakeholders interested in the Chinese Market.

“The online community is such large that users can hide their real identities, making it hard to trail behavior to a “real” person. For example, suppose that a person verbally attacks me online, it is troublesome for me to look for or even pray him as I don’t know his real name,” Qiu said.
