This year, the EU began a thorough investigation of U.S. gambling laws in the rear of they imprison out European playing for money companies from entering their market. The investigation concluded that the U.S. had not followed from one side through the proper carry on commerce regulations from the WTO.
According to CNBC, EU Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton released the following statement, “It is for the US to decide how best to regulate Internet gambling in its place of traffic, but this must be done in a way that fully respects WTO obligations. I am hopeful that we can obtain a swift, negotiated solution to this issue.”
The investigation mentioned that the U.S. agreed to pay a compensation package which would in turn settle the dispute between both parties. In exchange for this compensation package the U.S. would retreat from the WTO agreement completely.
