Internet Filters Could Block Online Gambling Sites in Australia

The Australian Government is currently interested in using filters which will help block hardcore pornography and fetish sites. The initiative garnered support from Sydney’s Family First Senator Steve Fielding who firmly stands by this new change. The only concern they currently have is that they may be blocking more than expected including online gambling sites.

“The Opposition aforesaid it would take ‘a lot of convincing’ for it to support the controversial mandatory ISP filtering policy, so the Government would need the support of Senator Fielding in the same proportion that well as the Greens and Senator Nick Xenophon to pass the legislation.
“…A spokesman for Senator Xenophon said, should the filtering process go onward, he would look to conversion to an act it to block Australians from accessing overseas online dancing-hall sites, which are illegal to run in Australia.

“The proposed censorship is more advanced than that in any liberal democracy and would put Australia on a equivalence by cruel regimes such as Iran, the internet industry says…”
